Swarsensky Memorial Brunch: Zionism and American Jews After October 7

Sunday, November 9, 2025 18 Cheshvan 5786

9:45 AM - 12:00 PMSwarsensky Social Hall

The war in Gaza following Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel has pushed us to revisit our understanding of Zionism. To help us rethink the meaning of Zionism amid the war in Gaza and rising global antisemitism, we have invited members of our community to share their thoughts and insights:

  • Jane Taves, leader in several national Jewish organizations, including Women of Reform Judaism, World Union for Progressive Judaism, and Union for Reform Judaism
  • Lester Pines, retired trial and appellate lawyer specializing in civil rights
  • Henry Maloney, UW student and former TBE MaTTY youth group president

The annual Swarsensky Memorial Weekend is a time of community learning, honoring the memory of Rabbi Manfred Swarsensky, who served as rabbi of Temple Beth El from 1940 to 1976.

Please also join us as we begin the Swarsensky Memorial Weekend with Shabbat worship on Friday, November 7, where Rabbi Dena Feingold will speak on the future of interfaith work.
