A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer from your IRA to a qualified charity, totally free of tax. QCDs count toward your annual required minimum distribution (RMD) if certain rules are met. For those planning to donate, a QCD is often more tax efficient than taking the required distribution and making donations separately.

Bunching. If you don’t have enough deductions to itemize, we encourage you to group your donations in certain years to maximize tax benefits or to engage in other tax-advantaged strategies. For example, you may prepay your 2020 membership contributions at the time you pay your 2019 membership contributions. Just send double the amount—hopefully with a bit of an increase for 2020—and indicate that you wish us to hold half for next year.

Donor-directed account. A donor-directed account offers the opportunity to keep intact the philanthropic dollars that you intend to be used for the benefit of Temple Beth El. This way, your contributions have the greatest impact. A TBE donor-directed account is a personal charitable savings account to benefit the programs and services at Temple Beth El. With a contribution of $5,000 or more, you can “front-load” your support of TBE. Because your contribution is nonrefundable, it qualifies for the same tax deduction—and the same tax-advantaged methods of funding—as other contributions to tbe.
