Join us for an online viewing and engaging discussion of “Shoelaces,” the story of a complicated relationship between an aging father and his son whom he abandoned as a young boy.

Reuven, an elderly man, has settled into his comfortable life as owner of a small auto-mechanic shop when he receives notice that his long-divorced wife has died, leaving behind their 35-year-old son, Gadi, a man dependent on routine. Reuven is told by Ilana, the social worker handling Gadi's case, that, until a facility with space opens up, he must take Gadi home with him. And so it begins. Gadi's needs include having his food placed in a certain way on the plate. Imagine Reuven's consternation when he learns the vegetables cannot touch the meat, the meat cannot touch the dessert, and so on! And, Gadi needs his feet massaged before bed! On lunch breaks, Gadi enjoys talking loudly to those around him, which causes Reuven a good deal of embarrassment. At times, Reuven feels this is more than he can take and explodes. This causes Gadi to be both confused and hurt. To complicate the picture further, Reuven develops a romantic interest in Ilana. As the plot develops, Reuven slowly realizes that he can take care of Gadi and possibly even enjoy their time together.

As you watch this film, expect to be drawn into the lives of Reuven and Gadi as they attempt to bridge the gap between father and son. Join them on their journey as the barriers dissolve and they enjoy moments of intimacy and love.
