Friday, June 20, 2025 24 Sivan 5785

7:30 PM - 8:30 PMFrank Adult Lounge

In honor of Juneteenth Day 2025, the Racial Justice Action Team of TBE and the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Madison will welcome Attorney Thomas M. Jacobson.

Thomas escaped Nazi Germany as an infant on the MS St. Louis arriving in America and went on to become one of the leading Jewish Civil Rights lawyers in Milwaukee. He worked side-by-side with civil rights luminaries–Father James Groppi and Lloyd Barbee, and represented Dick Greggory, Michael McGee and others. In addition, Thomas argued and won two cases in the US Supreme Court against Wisconsin statutes that harmed poor people.

He will share stories of his decades of advocacy, as chronicled in his new memoir: Underdog: Against All Odds: The Right for Justice. Attorney Jacobson will provide comments both at Shabbat services and in a wide-ranging discussion and Q&A session following services from 7:30-8:30  pm.
