Tables Across Borders

Sunday, October 1, 2023 16 Tishrei 5784

5:00 PM - 8:00 PMSwarsensky Social Hall at TBE

Please join us for a multicultural community dinner cooked by Bakht Mohammad, an evacuee from Afghanistan who, with the help of Jewish Social Services of Madison (JSS), has started his own catering business, Afghan Kabul Cuisine. The meal will be Halal and Kosher-style, meaning no pork will be served, and dairy and meat will not be cooked or served together.

Co-hosted with Jewish Social Services, this is one of a series of multicultural community dinners highlighting the cuisines and cultures of JSS refugee and asylum chefs. The goal of this project, according to Kai Garner Mishlove, executive director of JSS, is to provide a pathway to employment for JSS clients as well as building bridges between local ethnic communities, decreasing antisemitism and racism and generally building cross-cultural understanding. This event is supported by Jewish Social Services, Jewish Federation of Madison and the Cheryl Rosen Weston Fund and Temple Beth El.
