Please join us for the Joel Pedersen Memorial Lecture on tikkun olam and the environment. 

We're excited to have Bob Hamers speak on "Nanotechnology for a Sustainable Environment: The Legacy of Joel Pedersen." Bob Hamers is the Steenbock Professor of Physical Science at UW-Madison and Director of the Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology. His interests span the interface between science and technology, from semiconductors to diamonds to nanoparticles in our bodies, our environment, and in agriculture. Bob and Joel Pedersen collaborated for almost 15 years, during which time they co-authored over 30 scientific publications on topics related to the environmental impact of nanomaterials, ranging from nanomaterial toxicity to water purification and ultimately to the use of nanomaterials for improve food production. In this talk he will summarize some of the highlights of their collaborative research, with a special focus on how nanomaterials can help to mitigate the effects of global climate change on food production and advance toward sustainable agriculture.
