Shabbat Service with guest speaker, Governor Evers

Friday, April 26, 2019 21 Nisan 5779

7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

The Honorable Tony Evers, Governor of Wisconsin, will address the lessons of Yom Hashoah, a day of remembering the victims and the heroism of the Holocaust, on learning from this tragic event how can we lead one another to a more civil society in our state and world

Yom Hashoah occurs this year on May 2. In the week leading up to this occasion, we recall, with sadness, the atrocities of Nazi-era Germany and pledge to make our world a place that rejects the prejudices that led to this tragedy. We recall the six million Jews who perished, and we also recall the other five million victims of Nazi persecution: the infirm and differently abled, Roma, Catholics, homosexuals, and all who were not classified as “Aryan” under the Nazis’ perverted definition of those worthy of life. From our remembrances, we are called to step into the world and root out the evil that permeates humanity.

Amid the well-documented increase of antisemitism, white supremacy, and other forms of bigotry in our society, Governor Evers will speak about the practical ways we learn from the tragic lessons of the Holocaust to improve personal and social relationships in our world.

We hope you can join us for this very special evening.
